If this is urgent right now

  • A person is in danger. Call 911.
  • You cannot reach someone and you are worried about them. Ask ICOM for a wellness check on a family member, friend or neighbor. This is what the non-emergency line is for, and you do not need to know them well to ask. 360-679-9567. North Whidbey 360-678-6116. South Whidbey 360-321-4400. Answered 24 hours.
  • Your pet needs help in the night. There is no 24 hour vet on Whidbey. Drive north over Deception Pass to Pet Emergency Center in Mount Vernon, 360-848-5911, open 24 hours. The Clinton ferry stops running overnight, so the south route closes. Deception Pass never does.
  • You suspect an adult is being neglected, exploited or abused. Adult Protective Services, 1-877-734-6277.
Question 1

Where on the island is the help needed?

This matters more on Whidbey than most places. Almost every agency office is in Oak Harbor, and some will not drive to the south end. Pick the closest.

Question 2

What kind of help are you looking for?

Choose as many as you like. You can change your mind at any time.

Next steps, in order

  1. Call Island Senior Resources at 360-321-1600 first. Ask for Resources and Options Counseling. One free conversation screens for meals, chore help, in-home care, transportation and energy help together.
  2. Call two or three names on your list, not one. On Whidbey, availability changes week to week.
  3. Before any paid home repair work, ask for the contractor's L and I registration number and check it free at secure.lni.wa.gov/verify.
  4. Write down who you called, the date, and what they said. The notes box below is for that.
  5. If you get stuck, call Kind Path Guide at 360-391-0389. The first conversation is always free.
